The Business Analyst has the primary responsibility to elicit, analyze, validate, specify, verify and manage the needs of project stakeholders, including internal and external customers and end users.

  The Business Analyst serves as the conduit between the Product and Project Manager and the software development team through which requirements flow. The Business Analyst is involved at some level throughout the software development lifecycle. Upon establishment of the requirements baseline, the focus is shifted towards the management of the requirements specification and verifying the fulfillment of all requirements.  

Primary duties & responsibilities  

* Define business needs o Review and prioritize submitted task requests o Interact with the Product Manager and Subject Matter Experts to define project needs o Develop Vision & Scope documents * Elicit and analyze requirements o Articulate system capabilities to meet business needs o Write Use Cases that elucidate all possible use scenarios o Review and refine Vision & Scope documents as the project moves forward * Write specifications and model the requirements o Write Functional Requirements documents o Create mock-ups and other samples of project deliverables (ie.: storyboards, tables, prototypes, etc.) * Validate requirements o Ensure requirements are clear, concise and easy to understand o Validate project documents are written to include all project deliverables o Communicate with stakeholders and the software development team to ensure requirements are programmed as per project deliverables * Manage requirements o Update project documents as needed, including revising mock-ups and project samples o Conduct final requirements validation with Product and Project Manager  

Required skills & abilities  

* Interviewing — Talk with individuals and groups about their needs and ask the right questions to surface essential requirements information * Active Listening — Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times * Critical Thinking — Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems * Written Expression — The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand * Time Management — Effectively prioritize and manage multiple priorities * Interpersonal — Help negotiate priorities and to resolve conflicts among project stakeholders (such as end users, product management, and developers) * Modeling — Represent requirements information in graphical forms that augment textual representations in natural language * Understanding of software development methodologies and lifecycle  

Experience & education  

* 2-3 years experience in Technical Writing, Business Analysis, or equivalent * Degree in Management, Computer Science or English * Knowledge of UML (Unified Modeling Language) is preferred but not required * Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio etc.)
